# Working at Heights

## Summary

How to work safely at heights, including using fall protection and mobile elevating work platforms (MEWP).

## Who is this for?

- Building and operations management.
- Labs and research.

## Working safely at heights

Always follow safety and fall protection guidelines when working at heights, including:

- Ladders.
- Loading docks.
- MEWPs, including scissor lifts, boom lifts, and bucket trucks.

## Fall protection

Building and operations management can use EHS support to manage fall protection.

If you work at heights over four feet, you must use appropriate fall protection. This includes working on rooftops, ladders, scaffolding, and floor and wall openings.

## Mobile elevating work platforms

MEWP hazards include tip-overs, falls, collisions, and electrocution.

Help maintain a safe work environment by following MEWP safely practices, including:

- Conducting site risk assessments.
- Selecting appropriate MEWPs.
- Ensuring all operators complete training.
- Using MEWPs on safe support surfaces.
- Performing inspections and maintenance.
- Protecting people around MEWPs.
