Laboratory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Assessments
Lab PPE assessments are now incorporated into the EH&S AIMS, enabling lab representatives to conduct self-assessments of the activities conducted in their whole lab group, specific rooms, specific processes, and/or other segment of lab operations.
Lab representatives can identify additional PPE required by the lab, department, or school, going beyond the baseline University-wide specifications within this web-based tool. The Principal Investigator (PI) or Core Facility Manager can approve the assessments online within AIMS or offline by signing a printout of the assessment.
The PI/Core Manager or designee are required to review and update lab PPE assessments at least annually, or when significant changes in processes or materials use occur in the lab, per the Harvard University Laboratory PPE Policy issued by the Provost and the Executive Vice President in December 2011.
AIMS is a web-based tool that enables EH&S professionals and their partners to seamlessly manage all aspects of safety-related inspections across the entire university.
Inspection results and reports are able to be generated immediately using targeted electronic checklists. Links to corrective actions and inspection reports are automatically sent to designated personnel and are always accessible online.
Since corrective actions are managed online, reports are updated in real time. Area managers can view the status of corrective actions at any time to ensure that they are completed in a timely manner.
